Welcome to PEDGEN

About Us

Pediatricians must be concerned not only with particular organ systems and biologic processes, but also with environment, social and political influences which have a major impact on the health and well being of children and theirfamilies. So,keeping this in mind we the PEDGEN team feels the responsibility to help India achieve the target of “Single Digit Neonatal Mortality Rate by 2030.

Children can not advocate for themselves. Pediatricians as the professional whose entire purpose is to advance the well-being of children must be advocates for the individual child and for all children, irrespective of culture, religion, gender, race or ethnicity or of local, state or national boundaries.Hence we have endeavoured to keep the health of the baby well our first priority.

The more politically, economically or socially disenfranchised a population or a nation is, the greater the need for advocacy for children. The young often among the most vulnerable or disadvantaged in society and their needs special attention. So we aspire to empower every mother and family the basic knowledge of newborn care.We want every mother to start the Kangaroo Mother Care(KMC),not restricted to Low Birth Weight baby but also to normal weighing baby because KMC is a beneficial tool to initiate breastfeeding and its continuation and adequacy. Many families in the first week of delivery land up buying milk powder container and take artificial formula feed for granted and project it as a shield for solution for each cry of baby disapproving the importance of breastfeeding and paradoxically harm the newborn.

Efforts to control infection among children should be complemented by better understanding of nutrition. So,wehighly recommended all caregivers to Handwash as it is one of the best ways to protect the baby from infection and breastfeed all the newborn as breastfeeding is the best nutrition a baby can have.

Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) are largely credited with the reduction of diarrheal death. So has the potential of KMC kit in reducing the neonatal mortality rate.Give the mother a chance in the Low Birth Weight baby care till the baby attains 2500 grams and for normal baby care for 2 weeks of life till the breastfeeding is established.

Being born small, because of preterm birth or small for gestational age (SGA) or both is the leading risk factor for neonatal deaths and carries increased risk for post neonatal mortality, growthfailure and adult onset non communicable conditions.Preterm births, especially those <32 week are at highest risk of neonatal death, withongoing post neonatal mortality risk, significant risk of long-term Neuro developmental impairment, and stunting, as well as noncommunicable conditions. We intend to provide information for improving health of baby.

Why Chatti Say Pahley ? (Before 6th day ceremony):-

Because first seven days of neonate is extremely important:-

  1. 74.1% i.e 3/4thof all neonatal die in first seven days.
  2. Most of the “significant “congenital heart disease gets symptomatic by seven days of life.
  3. Both definition for Early onset neonatal sepsis <72 hours and Late onset of neonatal sepsis >72 hours are within 7 days of life.
  4. The maximal intensity of physiological jaundice is reached on 5th or 6th day of life i.e. within seven days of life.
  5. In Term neonates 5-10% of neonatal body weight and in Preterm 15-20% of the neonatal body weight is lost in first seven days of life then starts regaining of weight.
  6. The insensible water loss through the skin of a preterm becomes similar to a term by seven days of life.
  7. Both term and preterm baby baby comes to full feed or IV fluid requirement by seven days of life.
  8. Newborn Metabolic Screening should be done after 2 days and before 7th day of life.
  9. Confirmation of risk of renal and urinary tract abnormality with presence of hydronephrosis in antenatal scan has to be done by 7thof life.
  10. Now time has come for every individual to embrace this telemedicine technology before 6th day of life (chhatthi say pahley). For others better late than never!!!
