About Breastfeeding

Mother’s Best Gift to Her Baby

The biological and nutritional needs of the baby are fulfilled by the mother’s milk. Mother’s milk has no substitute. Breastfeeding is clean, cheap, safe, natural, and instinctive.

Benefits to the Baby:

  • Breast milk is a complete food providing all nutrients a baby needs during the first 6 months, easily digestible and absorbed.
  • Stimulates all five senses: touch, sight, smell, hearing, and taste.
  • Reduces risk of allergic disorders like asthma and eczema.
  • Contains anti-infective entities, defending antibodies, and friendly lacto-bacilli protecting newborn from infections.
  • Reduces risk of death from diarrhea, respiratory infections, and other infections.
  • Promotes higher intelligence (IQ), visual development, and healthy brain and eyes due to DHA, ARA, and EPA.
  • Reduces risk of diabetes, heart disease, eczema, asthma, and other allergic disorders later in life.
  • Contains enough water even in dry or hot climates.
  • Reduces the chance of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Benefits to the Mother:

  • Oxytocin release during breastfeeding promotes uterus contraction, reducing risk of postpartum bleeding and anemia.
  • Delays ovulation and menstruation onset, naturally spacing births (though contraception may still be needed).
  • Breastfeeding is readily available round the clock at the desired temperature.
  • Promotes bonding with the baby, a sense of fulfillment and motherliness.
  • Reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancer, and osteoporosis.
